Postpartum Doula Support

Postpartum doulas provide families with information and support on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from childbirth, infant soothing, and coping skills for new parents. We also help with light housework, fix a meal, and help incorporate older siblings into this new experience.

Postpartum Plan Consultation

We will support you in creating your postpartum plan. A postpartum plan is a set of preferences for the early weeks and months after your little one arrives, including decisions like parental leave, feeding, sleep, household chores, self-care, boundaries for friends and family, and mental health concerns. We will also discuss how having a postpartum doula could be helpful for your family.

How Can a Postpartum Doula Support Your Family

Emotional and Physical Support

Helping mom and dad adjust to having a new baby in the home by discussing the birth parents' birth story, being a listening ear, providing non-judgmental support, and building their confidence as parents. Provide tools and information concerning postpartum recovery, helping ensure the entire family adjusts to a new baby.

Newborn Care

Assist with feedings, diapering, bathing, sleeping, and understanding your baby's cues. Help parents understand normal newborn behaviors. Offer techniques for calming a crying baby. Help to promote parent-infant bonding.

Sibling Care and Adjustment

Help with siblings ensuring that they are bonding and adjusting to the new baby. Assure that there will be time for the parents to spend with their older children without the new baby around; individual time with parents is essential when bringing a new baby home.

Breastfeeding Support

Helping mom learn what is comfortable for her when it comes to breastfeeding. Help with latching, breastfeeding positions, feeding schedules, and pumping. Explain to the partner how they can be a part of the breastfeeding journey even though they aren't the one nursing.

Home Cleanliness

Helping with tasks that become challenging around the house, such as washing dishes, doing infant laundry, and keeping the nursery sorted and organized. Creating small stations with items needed for the baby and mom (i.e., diapers, wipes, snacks for mom, birth cloth).

Meal Preparation

Preparing meals for the family for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Run Errands

Run any errands that the family may need to get done.

Resources

Provide access to local resources for services outside a doula's scope of practice(i.e., pediatricians, parenting groups, parenting classes, lactation consultants).

Jacael was great to work with, whether it was looking after the baby so we could get some sleep and take a shower, assisting in breastfeeding, providing baby sleep advice, running errands, preparing food, doing laundry, or tidying up. Jacael was responsive, flexible, and most importantly, wonderful with our little girl. As first-time parents, her support with our newborn and around the house was invaluable in helping us settle in and getting us off to a good start.

Jacael was absolutely wonderful to work with - she was so caring with our little one, extremely responsible and responsive, had super positive energy, and very flexible as we navigated the first few months with our newborn. We extended our time with her since she was so helpful!
